About us

Long before there was the suburb of Norwood, with its solid Victorian houses, there stood a forest of mighty oaks, the Great North Wood.  Even though by the early eighteenth century much of the forest had been cut down for the shipyards of Kent, Daniel Defoe still felt it to be "a country more open and more woody than any other part so near London". At the west flank of this rural idyll stood a Tavern, The Horns, a popular watering hole for both parched traveller and horse. The Horns continues to serve the thirsty customer, though the largest livestock you'll see today is Zorro, the pub cat.

Food

Have you had a hard day at work? Or maybe a hard workout at the gym? Or is it just one of those "don't feel like cooking" days? Why not come down to the horns and treat yourself to a freshly prepared meal from our extensive menu. From sandwiches to light bites, plates to share through to a full slap up meal. To accompany your meal you can choose from the wide range of lagers, ales and real ales we have on tap. We also have a wine list to suit most tastes and a coffee machine that makes a mean cappuccino. At the Horns we cook proper pub food at a price that won't break the bank.

Barbecue

It's the weekend and the sun is out. That means it's barbecue time at the Horns. Why not pop down and soak up the sun in our newly refurbished garden. We have a great array of BBQ food, from sausages and burgers, to chicken and ribs, all reasonably priced. Just order at the bar and we will bring it over to your table. What could be better? Great al fresco eating, accompanied by a nice glass of wine or beer and no washing up at the end.

 

Sports

We have six large screen televisions in our two bars, making us the biggest and best sports bar in the area. Why not come down and enjoy the big game over a relaxing beer or two? We can also cater for a wide range of sporting interests, so if there is a sport you and your friends would like to watch just pop in and ask. If it is available to us via any BT or Sky channels, we will do our best to make it available to you.

 

Poker

Do you play poker online or have you watched it on television and been intrigued? Why not experience the thrill of live tournament poker? All comers are welcome. We are a friendly bunch of players and someone will be on hand to show you the ropes if you are unsure of the rules.

Thursday and Sunday are poker nights at the Horns. On Thursdays we are part of the UK's largest pub poker league, Redtooth, with the ultimate prize of a trip to Las Vegas. Phone us or pop in for more details.
